Elegant Architectural is a CIAT Chartered Practice with over 15 years of experience and more than 200 completed projects across residential, heritage, and commercial work. The practice specialises in bespoke design solutions, from feasibility through to site coordination, for homeowners, developers, and commercial clients across the UK.

The problem was a familiar one for high-quality professional service firms: the work was excellent and the reputation was strong, but the digital presence did not reflect either. Winning new work increasingly depends on a first impression online, and a CIAT Chartered architect commanding premium fees needs a platform that signals that quality before a word is read.

The challenge: showcasing depth without a developer on call

Architecture is a portfolio discipline. Clients want to see the range of what a practice has delivered: the scale, the style, the site challenges overcome. For Elegant Architectural, that meant 200+ projects that needed to be presented clearly, with room for images, planning context, design rationale, and project specifics.

The practice also needed to manage the site themselves. Adding a new project, updating a services page, writing an insight post, none of that should require raising a ticket with a developer. The owner needed full editorial control without needing to understand code.

That ruled out a custom static build as the primary interface. What was needed was a CMS designed for this kind of content-driven, visually led site.

Built on Ghost CMS

We built the site on Ghost, a modern publishing platform that pairs a clean editorial interface with powerful design flexibility. Ghost is purpose-built for content-led sites and gives the practice owner a straightforward dashboard for everything: adding portfolio entries, writing insight articles, updating service descriptions, uploading photography, and managing navigation.

The result is a site that behaves like a bespoke build but is fully self-managed from day one. No page builders. No plugin dependencies. No waiting for someone else to publish a project that went live last month.

Filterable portfolio index

The portfolio page is the centrepiece of the site. Twelve projects are currently published, browsable by category: Bespoke Homes, Extensions & Alterations, Heritage & Listed Buildings, Private Residential, and Residential Development. Visitors can filter by the type of work most relevant to them: a homeowner planning a kitchen extension is looking at different projects than a developer evaluating a multi-unit scheme.

Every project card shows the project name, location, a key render or photograph, and the relevant categories. The grid is clean, proportional, and built to scale. As new projects are added, the index updates automatically without any layout work.

Individual project pages

Each project has its own long-form page. The design gives full-width space to the imagery (architectural renders, site photographs, planning documents) alongside the project narrative: location, brief, constraints, and the design response.

On mobile, the layout shifts into a clean single-column reading experience. Project descriptions run to several hundred words in many cases, covering site context, planning history, and the design rationale. This is the kind of depth that filters out tyre-kickers and builds credibility with serious clients who are comparing multiple practices.

Why this matters for a professional service business

Architecture is a trust purchase. A client commissioning a bespoke home extension or a heritage conversion is spending tens of thousands of pounds and placing significant trust in the practice they choose. The website’s job is not to close the sale. It is to earn the right to a conversation.

For Elegant Architectural, that means the site needs to communicate two things clearly: the quality of the work and the depth of experience behind it. The portfolio does the first. The 15-year track record, the CIAT accreditation, and the 200+ completed projects do the second.

The Ghost CMS setup means the practice can keep the site current without friction. A project completes: the owner logs in, uploads the photography, writes the case study, and it is live. Insights can be published to demonstrate expertise. Testimonials can be added as they come in. The site grows with the business rather than falling behind it.

A site that looks like the work it represents: considered, restrained, and built to endure.

For any professional service firm (architect, surveyor, consultant, designer), this is the model worth looking at. A self-managed CMS, a content structure built around how clients actually evaluate you, and a design standard that commands the fees the work deserves.
